EVERY ARTWORK HAS A STORY. HERE’S THE STORY BEHIND YOURS:

As an artist I am drawn to to texture, color and shadow. During a photo trip through Blowing Rock, North Carolina I happened upon this wall facing an empty field at the base of a steep hill. I was a good distance off when I saw this and had to get closer for the shot. The hill had loose pebbles and dirt, and the traverse was steep. More than a couple times I almost took a spill. Even so, I knew this window, wall and wooden bench were worth it.

I was attracted by the strong walls covered in stucco. The uneven patterns and shadows, the glass block shielded by strong iron bars. Somewhere inside was a colored light. I had no idea what was on the other side.

I was struck by the strength of this wall and how the light inside was kept behind the iron bars. It was at that point that I felt as though I was on the side of freedom – outside in nature while something beautiful was contained within.
